Off the Maremma coast lies a unique natural treasure: the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago.
Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Gorgona, and Giannutri are seven pearls set in the Tyrrhenian Sea, which legend says were born from the drops of a necklace belonging to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.
Since 1996, these islands, along with numerous islets and rocks, have formed the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. The area is also part of the Pelagos Sanctuary for marine mammals, a protected zone of 90,000 km² established through an agreement between Italy, France, and the Principality of Monaco.
Each island has its own identity, with unique environmental and historical features. Their location, close to the coast, made them inhabited and strategically important for visual navigation since ancient times.
Elba, Giglio, and Capraia are the largest islands and are easily accessible year-round. Here, you can enjoy active holidays with trekking, cycling, and water sports. The Grande Traversata Elbana (GTE) is a must for hiking enthusiasts. The rugged coasts offer white beaches, hidden coves, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for sailing, surfing, SUP, kayaking, and spectacular diving.
Montecristo, Gorgona, Pianosa, and Giannutri are smaller and enchanting, shrouded in legends and mystery. Being protected areas or home to penal colonies, visits are limited and only possible with authorized guides, making the experience even more exclusive.
The Tuscan Archipelago is the ideal destination for those who love the sea and outdoor activities: snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, kayaking, trekking, and mountain biking. A true paradise for those seeking an authentic connection with nature.
